Located between the Spil Mountain and the Gediz River, in the north of the İzmir-İstanbul Highway, 36 km from İzmir, Manisa is one of the important cities of the Aegean Region. According to Homer, it is thought that the first settlement was founded in the 14th century BC by Magnets returning from the Trojan Wars. The ancient name of Manisa, which lived under Hittite, Aka, Phrygian, Lydian, Hellenic, Roman and Byzantine domination, is Magnesia. The name of the city, which was taken from the Byzantines by Saruhanoğulları in 1313, was changed to Manisa and became the center of the principality. Many remains of these civilizations, both underground and above, have survived to the present day. In Manisa, which was ruled by the princes between 1437 and 1595 during the Ottoman period, mosques, fountains, soup kitchens, bridges, madrasas and similar works were built by the princes and their families, and the city was largely redeveloped and became an important social, administrative and economic center in the 14th century.

Today, it attracts more and more tourists every year with its historical and natural beauties, ruins, museum, Spil Mountain National Park and Mesir Festivals.
